Madrid is a top tourist destination, offering everything from art and culture to leisure and sports, as well as restaurants, shops and green spaces. There are so many places to go, so many things to do… And the city continues to improve its accessibility provisions so that all visitors can make the most of their trip to the Spanish capital.
The Madrid Council, in conjunction with Predif (an NGO representing people with disabilities) and other tourism organisations, has developed the Accessible Travel Guide, containing information on tourist sights for disabled visitors.
Madrid Accessible To You Guide
The Madrid City Council Tourism Department has put together this guide which you can download here in collaboration with PREDIF. It features eight accessible tourism routes that invite us to explore the city: the Landscape of Light; el Madrid de los Austrias; Along Calle Alcalá; Barrio de las Letras; El Retiro Park and Barrio Salamanca; Between Chueca and Malasaña; Princesa-Moncloa; and Atocha and the Surrounding Area. Each one includes a brief description of the walkable pedestrian route in question, as well as “tips” or suggestions, a map of the route, and a list of seven tourism resources (such as museums, monuments, squares, gardens…) with accessibility information about them that we recommend you visit along the way.
Furthermore, the guide provides information that is useful when planning your trip such as accessible guided tours, personal assistant services, support products for sale or for hire, the accessibility of the transport network, travel agencies specialising in accessible tourism… and so much more.
Available in both Spanish and English, it has been made into an accessible PDF that can be used by persons who are visually impaired. The paper edition contains information in braille and large fonts and also includes QR codes that allow you to download information in the language of your choice and to connect to the TUR4all platform.
