Places to cool off near Madrid

The following are a few suggestions to combat the heat(wave):

Las Presillas, Rascafría

Three natural swimming pools in the Paular Valley, with extensive green areas.

 Address: Pinilla del Valle, Alameda del Valle, Rascafría, Monasterio de el Paular.

 Timetable: Open daily from 10:00h to 21:00 h.

 Entry is free. Parking for cars, 9€ and 4€ for motorbikes.

San Juan Reservoir, San Martín de Valdeiglesias

This is the only reservoir in the Madrid Community in which swimming is authorized. The reservoir has 14 km of beaches. Entry is free. Parking is limited to 500 vehicles, and the carpark is closed once it reaches capacity.

Picadas Reservoir, Pelayos de la Presa

A natural reservoir on the Alberche River; access is free. Fishing and some watersports like canoeing are permitted.

Las Berceas, Cercedilla

Located in the recreational area of Las Dehesas, in the Fuenfria Valley, at Cercedilla. It has an extensive pine wood and various facilities (cafes, bar, toilets and parking).

 Opening hours: From 10:00 to 20:00h.

 Price: 6€ for adults (14-64 years of age) on working days and 7€ on weekends on holidays. Under 14s and over 65s, 4€ seven days a week. Residents in Cercedillas are charged 2.50€ per adult and 1.50€ per child.

Riosequillo Recreation Area, Buitrago de Lozoya

Apart from a gigantic 4500 sq. meter natural swimming pool, the area includes sports fields, training circuit, children’s área with swings and a small bouncy castle, wooded areas, cafeterias, restaurant, changing rooms, toilets, large car park, first-aid station and a botanical garden in which all the plants are identified. The surroundings are ideal for hiking.

 Getting there on public transport: bus 191 from Plaza de Castilla. Then on foot from Buitrago de Lozoya to the recreation área.

 Opens: from 11:00 to 20:00h. Closed on Mondays

 Price: 4€ general entry ticket. Discounts for large groups, retirees, unemployed and children under 12.

Las Pozas de la Puebla (Puebla de la Sierra)

A group of natural rock pools, also known as Pozas de Berrueco, not as large as other natural pools, but a place where you can enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.

The Hervidero Waterfall, San Agustín de Guadalix

A pleasant setting with many easy hiking routes in the hills. We also recommend a visit to the Parish church of San Agustín.
